Superstitions

Do you believe in superstitions? How about the fact that it is conquering the world? Superstitions are belief systems that are set by individuals due to fear of the unknown or ignorance of something. In your opinion, to what extent do people believe in superstitions?  In my view, people strongly believe in superstitions due to the fact that it could be part of their culture and is a psychological mindset. Superstations impact people massively and conquers their mindset.

Culture plays major role in the beliefs of individuals which shapes their identity. Moreover, each person adapts to their culture which results in the superstition to become a part of one’s life. This can be seen “according to Turkish belief, blue acts as a shield against evil and even absorbs negativity” (Williams, Victoria). This demonstrates that in Turkey’s culture blue protects against bad luck that cause people to change their mindset and prefer blue. In addition, people believe in this superstition, which is a part of their culture, therefore they change their lifestyle to suit their superstition. Several pieces of literature wrote about the superstitions in their culture to warn people about them such as the poem “Beware do not read this poem”. This poem illustrated the situation that happened in their town which is their belief. People believe in superstitions to an extreme extent because it changes their life abruptly.

Furthermore, fear of something results it into becoming one’s belief. One’s psychological thinking can impact their life which results in a change of mindset. This can be shown as “Fear is the main source of superstition, and one of the main sources of cruelty” (Russell, Bertram). This implies that being afraid of something will be a constant thought which turns into a belief. Additionally, the mind is revolved around the psychology of a person. The poem “Darkness” demonstrates that darkness is going to take over and cause destruction. This is written as the poet has a fear of the dark, therefore it became his belief. Superstition cause people to change their perspective of things and their opinion.

On the other hand, many people think the superstitions are not real and that they can not get impacted by them. This can be seen in “The Hallow” where the poet does not believe in the superstition of haunted forest because it is not proven as a fact. Contrastingly, once a person believes in something it will change their life. In addition, people strongly believe in superstitions as they slowly drift from the previous lifestyle to a new mindset to suit their superstition.

In conclusion, superstitions are beliefs that can change people’s life upside down. Personally, I think that people believe in superstitions to an extreme extent as they want to suit their culture and could be caused due to psychological thinking. Believe in what you think is true no matter how much people disagree with you.
