People and superstitions

People have always believed in superstitions when progressing through history. Some of our superstitions can be found thousands of years in the past, such as the belief found in ancient Egypt 5000 years ago according to Natalie. These beliefs or superstitions can be found in many forms including literature. As a social studies expert, I strongly believe that people still believe in superstitions based on the pieces of literature. I read which include “the hollow”, “dover beach”, “darkness” that people believe and trust.

To start off most superstitious people come off as unwise and the amount of unwise people are spreading in modern times. This is because people have a growing fear of the unknown and do certain actions to protect themselves even though its useless and they cant seem to conquer this fear and to conquer fear is the beginning of wisdom according to Bertrand. This makes me believe that many superstitious remain and are increasing. My argument is also supported by some literature pieces.

These great pieces of literature include “the hollow”, “dover beach” and “darkness” which I previously stated with the addition of “superstitions” and “beware: do not read this poem”. All of these literature pieces all share a frightening and attractive theme which is very popular and beloved in recent times which is belief. Examples of these beliefs include the “headless horseman”  which roams in dark gloomy forests and the woman who got sucked into a mirror and now haunts and kills whoever gets in her house. People usually think that these literature pieces include cultural beliefs that are true but I am here to disagree. I believe these literature pieces were made for entertainment and no more. Ill include some counter arguments.

Other social studies experts believe quite the opposite of what I do. Others believe that people are actually getting wiser and no longer believing in superstition due to scientific discoveries that disprove these myths, superstitions or belief. These literature pieces might be true but in my point of view I find them to be a form of entertainment.

In conclusion superstitions are beliefs that can date back to thousands of years and I believe that people are getting more superstitious and thus still believe in superstitions. This is because unwise people cant conquer their fear of the unknown and thus start doing action and placing object that “protect them” such as the evil eye. The literature pieces with the theme of belief might be true but I believe that it’s a theme that gives suspense for entertainment. As always everyone is entitled to their own opinion and this is just mine.
